HTC today has launched the new HTC Hero smartphone at an HTC event in London. Yet another Andriod based cellphone following the HTC Dream and HTC Magic. The new HTC Hero comes with HTC's new intuitive interface dubbed HTC Sense. HTC Hero is also the first Android OS based phone that brings Adobe Flash support for web browsing and enjoying Flash-based multimedia content. By bringing Flash platform to Android, HTC Hero smartly leapfrogs Apple's iPhone 3GS which is yet to get Flash support.
HTC Hero will be available for Europe in July, Asia in late summer and North American version will arrive in late 2009. No word on pricing yet though.
HTC Hero has a 3.2-inch HVGA (320x480) TFT-LCD touchscreen and runs on Google's Andriod operating system with new HTC sense interface. Yes, it's the same Donut/Rosie interface lift. Dubbed as HTC Sense, the new HTC interface for Android features gesture control, widgets support and single view integration of different apps. HTC Sense boasts of features like turning the phone over to put the phone in silence mode. Social networking and productivity enthusiasts can add new widgets for Twitter, Facebook, et all which can be set at the home screen itself. Also now SMS, mails and call history can be integrated with the contact photos and Twitter/Facebook updates. This makes single-view of contact-wise log of interaction with specific contact.
This handset runs on Qualcomm's 528MHz MSM7200A processor and has 512MB ROM with 228MB RAM that will promise faster multimedia as well as mobile web browsing experience. Also microSD memory expansion slot allows adding memory to the phone. HTC also learnt from its mistakes and packs in 3.5mm audio jack for music enthusiasts.
HTC Hero features 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and also has digital compass as well as gravity sensor. For better GPS based apps exploitation, this phone also has built-in internal GPS antenna. The 1350mAh lithium-ion battery offers 7.8 hours of talktime over GSM and 7 hours over WCDMA.
