After its launch in Mumbai and some other cities, Tata Indicom has now launched its Photon+ high speed internet services in New Delhi.

The Photon+ service claims to be 20 times faster than the existing mobile wireless technology offering data rates up to 3.1 Mbps. It is compatible with both laptops and desktop PCs.

Photon+ service can be accessed using two devices - Router, which is configured with an in-built modem and has Wi-Fi capabilities, as well as the USB Modem.

The service is available for Rs. 3,500. Customers can simply plug in the device to the USB port of either their laptop or desktop PC and to start using high-speed Internet connectivity, says the company. Further, the customer has an option to select his tariff plan based on his usage needs.

Users can also opt for a Router to use the service. This is being made available at a refundable security deposit of Rs 6,999 and a one-time activation fee of Rs 1,000. The Router is capable to enable simultaneous Internet use for multiple computers. There are multiple tariff plans to choose from, depending on usage.

It usually takes a day for them to get the services started for you once you register with them.

Here is a complete analysis of what I found after subjecting a Photon+ that my dad owned: I tested it at two places - Pune and Navi Mumbai. To say that this service is unreliable at it's best is an understatement - speeds were NEVER consistent. In a 24 hour timeline: the max speed was obtained around 11pm - and it was a whopping 400+ KB/s !!! But this speed sustained for hardly 4-5 minutes and the speed was back to a measly 90-130 KB/s, which was pretty much the average speed throughout, except for the period between 10am and 3pm, when the speed stayed below 20 KB/s throughout. Considering the price, only a fool would go in for this - at a fraction of the cost, you could go in for an Airtel broadband unlimited connection. the only advantage Photon+ seems to enjoy is that the connection establishment takes very less time - unlike it's USB modem and other similar services, I could connect and disconnect almost instantaneously - which is VERY helpful for corp execs who might want to take a sudden look at an important email while travelling to a meeting or sth. All-in-all, this facility is clearly aimed at corporate biggies. Home users should steer clear of any such propaganda.

Man when will you realise they dont give a damn ... in india service is about statistics not about finite measures. They will always find enough idiots who will fall for their language to justify not pleasing the informed few !

I've been using this service for last 6 months now. You'll get a max speed of 200 KBPS (2000 KbPS, i.e., Kilo Bits not bytes as it is denoted with small "b"), that too very rarely. Otherwise, the max speed is mormally 65-70 KBPS at most. This "Upto 3.1 MBPS" thing is total bullshit! If you are happy with theactual speed, you may go with it. They used to have an unlimited plan earlier (Rs. 1655/= incl taxes), which I think have just been discontinued.

The plan rates are ridiculously high and I wonder why there is no unlimited plan? What are they thinking.

I have a Photon+ connection and am very happy with it. The speeds are great, downloading at about 110kBps.

Can techtree confirm their claim? I suggest TT does a review and lets everyone know if the service is any reliable.
