Prints through special Apps
Hewlett Packard has announced the world's first net-connected touch-screen printer that eliminates the need to be connected to a computer. HP Photosmart Premium with Touchsmart Web is an all-in-one printer that is capable of printing images right off the web, using printer's touchscreen interface. This all-in-one printer is price at $399 (Rs. 19,422 approx.) and will be available this fall, i.e., late September.
HP Photosmart Premium with Touchsmart Web printer features HP's new web-based printing platform that is married to HP's TouchSmart technology. This Touchsmart Web printer has a 4.33-inch touchscreen that enables interactive interface for users to connect online via HP apps. Also, users can actually print out maps by accessing Google Maps app on the printer.
Just like Apple's App Store, HP has come up with HP App Studio for this novel printer to offer downloadable apps as and when they're available. For instance, the Coupons app from Coupons.com will allow printing the coupons directly from the web accessed through this printer. For availability of more applications in the HP App Studio, the company will make its custom API openly available for development of supporting apps in late 2009.
USA Today, Google, Fandango, Coupons.com, Nickelodeon, DreamWorks Animation, Web Sudoku and Weathernews Inc. are the first partners to provide their apps for HP Apps Studio. Snapfish account holders can directly access their accounts from this printer and manage their images apart from printing them.
Apart from that, the printer can also be hooked to WiFi-enabled PCs, Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch using HP iPrint Photo and other Bluetooth-enabled devices. Even though the printer will have web-connected Apps and other wireless options, it won't be using any browser for surfing web, said Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president of printing and imaging at HP.
After embracing the mobile platform since a decade now, the web has reached printers and soon, we'll get to see mobile printers.
