iPhone-Dev team brings ultrasn0w for iPhone 3G running 3.0 software update
The iPhone-Dev team has finally brought iPhone 3G carrier unlock through a software project method dubbed Ultrasn0w. The aim of Ultrasn0w is to unlock single carrier bound iPhone 3G models and make it it usable to any mobile carrier. The iPhone-Dev team has made Ultrasn0w accessible thorough Cydia or Icy repositories, which are available after jailbreaking the iPhone 3G.
The iPhone 3G owners had to wait long for software unlock since the model had different baseband processor. The iPhone-Dev team finally succeeded in finding a hole in the software and thereby came up with Ultrasn0w method for unlocking iPhone 3G phones running on iPhone OS 3.0 software update.
The iPhone-Dev Team blogpost mentions seven logical steps to get the Ultrasn0w running on iPhone 3G devices with 3.0 software update. First, users got to upgrade their phone to iPhone OS 3.0, then download Redsn0w (Windows or Mac) or Pwnage Tool (Mac only) to jailbreak their iPhone 3G.
The jailbreak process installs Cydia and Icy - freeware package managers on the iPhone 3G and NOT to be confused as jailbroken App Store. Next, users have to access Cydia or Icy and add repo666.ultrasn0w.com repository link to Sources and then search for 'Ultrasn0w'. Once found, install Ultrasn0w and then reboot iPhone 3G to find your phone as carrier unlocked.
