    Apple to release iPhone 3.0 firmware for Apple devices in a few hours

The much awaited Apple iPhone OS 3.0 firmware update will finally arrive today at around 12:02 am in U.S. and 10:30 pm in India. Note that the iPhone 3.0 update will be freely available for iPhone (first generation) and iPhone 3G devices. While iPod Touch owners will have to pay $9.95 (Rs. 480 approx.).

Check Apple's iPhone software update link - to download it directly from the web. Or else, one can start iTunes, connect the Apple device and click on 'Check Updates' button.

you have to wait until AT&T supports iphone MMS... right now, the software supports it for when they do get their shit together. from what i understand, AT&T's system can't figure out how to do it lol.

updated .. apps worked for about an hour .. now any app other than the default ones crash on opening. Got an app icon that says ' waiting .'. can't delete it . something a bit wierd going on.

Same issue for me earlier with the stuck app. Resolved itself after a while. iTunes store is being hammered at the moment. Hey, could someone tell me what version number is after the 3.0 in your SETTINGS > ABOUT > VERSION section please? i really need to know this. Thanks

My phone locked up after attempting update. All went fine until the end - said network timed out although it didn't. Now when attempting to connect to iTunes store, it gives me the same message. Rebooted, etc. Nothing. Phone unusable.

Yeah, my phone will no longer connect to itunes and is stuck in some weird screen. Nothing seems to fix it, tried turning off and on, resetting it, connecting it to itunes but nothing works. Any ideas or solutions?

Yep, mine locked up too, it's wont even restore and i've tried one three different Mac's. All I get is the connect to iTunes screen. Everything I do the tells me it needs to be restored and every time I try I keep getting an error message half way through. This is not good as I live and work on the iPhone.

Mine bricked. I took my Iphone to a different machine and the restore is working now. Find a new machine if yours locked up

The update just arrived around 10:08am PSD here in California. I noticed it when Software Update popped up and wanted me to download Java 4 for OSX. For some reason Java 4 came up with and error....but it's okay, I have my 3.0 update!!!

Does anybody know whether the 3.0 update might cause a whole bunch of apps I have downloaded in the last year to stop working? Obviously, I assume Apple took care of the compatibility of its own apps that come standard on the phone. But what about the apps I have purchased from others?
