Amazon's 9.7-inch screen bearing Kindle DX priced at $489
Last month, Amazon launched new bigger Kindle version dubbed Kindle DX that is meant for reading textbooks, magazines and newspapers. Boasting a 9.7-inch screen display, Kindle DX is listed for whopping $489 (Rs. 23,500 approx.) and is said to be available in stock on June 17, but already started shipping on June 10.
Many folks have got lucky to get their pre-ordered Kindle DX of which Rapid Repair immediately ripped it apart to see what's inside. Amazon's 9.7-inch screen bearing Kindle DX reader supports wireless 3G connection, screen auto-rotates and 4GB internal memory.
Kindle DX's disassembly showed that it contained many replaceable parts. The back panel of the Kindle DX was taken off to reveal the logic board, which showed a number of chips that include CPU, memory, wireless card and Epson's E-ink panel controller. Kindle DX packs 3.7V Lithium Polymer battery with a 1530mAh rating that promises four days of reading on single charge.
Thankfully, Kindle DX has 3.5mm audio jack for plugging in any headphones with it. However, the absence of expandable memory slot would be felt.
The bigger screen, though present, doesn't actually enhance the experience. Few people who face a difficulty reading small fonts may be able to take advantage of different font settings. One thing that's pricking everyone is its high price.
