Will issue a verification seal denoting that the profile is authentic
In order to fight impersonators on Twitter, a micro-blogging site, is planning to launch Verified Accounts feature.
Twitter will issue a verification seal denoting that the profile is authentic and not a fake. Initially, Twitter plans to start with small group of people like famous artists, athletes, public officials, public agencies, and other well known individuals who are at risk of impersonation.
Twitter co-founder Biz Stone in his blog post states, "Please note that this doesn't mean accounts without a verification seal are fake-the vast majority of Twitter accounts are not impersonators. Another way to determine authenticity is to check the official web site of the person for a link back to their Twitter account."
Micro-blogging is surely gaining popularity with celebs like Ashton Kuthcher and Oprah, and this step sure is a good way of ensuring that people don't get fooled by fakers.
