Traveling by the Indian Railways (IR) anytime soon? Not only will you be greeted by 'Rail-hostesses' on some trains, but you will also be able to make railway related enquiry using IR's upcoming new call center number - 138.
Currently, the 139 railway enquiry service is active 24 hours which serves the purpose of over seven lakh people everyday for information about PNR status, arrival/departure of trains, seat availability, fares as well as accommodation.
To cope up with the increasing number of calls received on 139 everyday, IR has decided to introduce the 138 service.
Hopefully the 'Aap kataar main hain' (You are in queue) syndrome will ease when the new service number gets activated.
