Face power surges without worrying about frying your motherboard

Good layout, decent performer, anti-surge protection technology, HDMI, supports 1600 MHz 45 nm processors, supports up to 8 GB 1066 MHz DDR2 RAM

One of the worst enemies of PC electronic components is power surge, which usually occur due to irregularities in the power supply from the mains. They can also happen during a thunderstorm due to lightning. Power surges can destroy the motherboard, and also other components attached to it. To address this problem (at least for the PC), Asus has launched the P5KLP-AMPS motherboard featuring surge protection, thanks to Japanese 5000 hrs conductive polymer solid capacitors in VRM. The motherboard is based on Intel G31 + ICH7 chipset and therefore has onboard graphics. Read this review to find out more.

The Asus P5KPL-AM/PS comes packed in a plain blue box. The 5000 hrs Solid Capacitors, 1600 MHz FSB support, 1066 MHz DDR2 support and Gigabit LAN are advertised at the front, while the board specifications are there for your ready reference at the back.

Bundle

  • 1 SATA cable
  • 1 IDE cable
  • I/O shield
  • Quick Installation Guide
  • Manual
  • Driver disk
  • Case badge

As you can see, there are absolutely no frills; Asus has provided just what is required, thus cutting cost. We would have definitely liked to see some brackets included with the board, as this would not have increased the cost by much.

go for Gigabyte EG31M-S2L @2700 (energy efficient) or Gigabyte EG43M-S2H @5400 (energy efficient + HDMI)
