Scooped images of Nokia's unannounced U.S. bound phones have appeared on Engadget. This would have usually relegated to just another of those scoops we've been so used to. But then, the looks of them phones compelled a second glance.
So, ladies and gentlemen, what we have here are four new upcoming phones, all looking like they have been through a mutation with none of them remotely resembling any of their previous cousins from Espoo. The new devices have been aptly named (not surprisingly) Mako, Thresher, Grouper and Snapper.
The Mako features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 2 megapixel camera, AGPS, memory expansion and not to mention, a 2.4-inch, QVGA display. The phone runs on the S60 Third Edition platform with the latest Feature Pack2. Weirdly, it comes with a 2.5mm audio jack for unknown reasons. This one was initially expected to make its debut sometime in the first week of June, but has been since then "pushed back". What we're more interested, however, is about the possibility of its European or Asian version making an appearance soon.
Moving over to the Thresher, this one to start with, is a Series 40 device featuring a glossy finish, HSDPA, GPS and a 3.2 megapixel camera. Slightly down the price ladder would be the Grouper, which will sport similar specs albeit with a lower resolution camera. Yes, this one's S40 as well.
Lastly, we have the Snapper Flip, which might lack the style and the panache of the Grouper, but still comes packed with HSDPA, Bluetooth 2.1, AGPS and a 2 megapixel camera. The Snapper is expected to hit the U.S. shores in August. As of now, we have no inkling as to whether any of these U.S. centric phones will ever make their way to the Indian shores.
