Instant messaging is the most popular means of communications over the internet today. A few years ago, there were only a handful of messaging services to choose from, but now there are so many that it has become increasingly difficult to keep track of and chat with all your buddies who use different messaging services.
Google has its own messenger known as Google Talk, but it also allows users to chat right inside the internet browser. The chats get saved and became searchable in the mail, which is one reason why many people moved to Google Talk. A couple of years ago, Google Talk opened up their chat protocol to Jabber networks, which has paved the way for Google Talk users to chat with their buddies on AIM, MSN, Yahoo or even ICQ. Read on to find out how it can be done.
You require Psi, which is a free Jabber client, and Google Talk to achieve this. Psi can be downloaded from http://psi-im.org, and Google Talk, which can be downloaded from http://talk.google.com. Install these two IM clients and proceed to the next step.
Launch Psi. Enter Google Talk as the Name and do not check the box next to Register new account in the Account setup window (which will launch if you are using Psi for the first time). Click Use existing account.

Great Tidbit of info... Though really redundant in the face of Pidgin and Digsby,, and of course Meebo..
With Portable versions of Digsby and Pidgin now available,, no need for going with these kind of "hacks" to achieve these multi-network IM setups.
Now TechGuy that is new information for me. Thanks a lot. I never knew you could do that. I don't think any other service provider can do that. Oh by the way since when r u using that chat in browser service? I think u could also try sify.com
One possibe advantage of this would be that you'd be able to see your chat history in Gmail.. though my experience with this has been dodgy in the past.
Good one. Also please try pidgin (http://www.pidgin.im). It lets you connect to almost all chat messengers. Your chats can be preserved. There is even a portable version to carry around on a thumb drive.
