Sony's shift towards digital downloads was observed when Patapon 2 game was offered as for PlayStation Portable recently. Now, according to a report in Kotaku, a game news website, a TNS survey indicates that Sony is planning to launch a game download rental service.

The TNS survey aims to know about the PSP game purchasing habits. The survey asks about PSP game download rental service with subscription based model based on a game release. Respondent is also asked to choose option of renting games via the game download service. The images say the story.

Along with that, CNET reported that Sony is looking forward to launch a music download service for PSP attributing the information to their music industry sources. However, these talks are only in preliminary stages and no major music deals have been inked.

Recently, Sony CEO Howard Stringer, in an interview with Nikkei Electronics Asia, said , "If we had gone with open technology from the start, I think we probably would have beaten Apple. Sony hasn't taken open technology very seriously in the past. Its Connect music download service was a failure."

Sony's Connect music would lock customers for downloading music only from those websites partnered with Sony. This music download service would certainly delight PSP owners. As the E3 Expo in June approaches, more rumors about Sony's PSP will sprout. What's going to be Sony's big PSP-related announcement at E3 expo? It could be a PSP Go! or a digital download service.
