    HP Recalls 70,000 Notebook Batteries

HP has announced battery replacement program to recall about 70, 000 notebook batteries sensing fire hazard.

In collaboration with US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, HP has recalled 70,000 Lithium-Ion batteries of the HP-branded and Compaq notebooks following two incidents in which overheated batteries caused damaged to property.

All HP notebooks sold in US between August 2007 and March 2008 from hp.com as well as hpshopping.com are eligible for battery pack replacement program. These notebook models fall in price range of $500 (Rs. 25,000 approx.) and $3,000 (Rs. 1,50,000 approx.).

In case you've one of the notebook models listed above then immediately check the battery pack number by removing the battery from the back panel. Below are the battery numbers of the affected models:

We advise you to get your notebook checked through respective HP service centers or certified computer technicians.

The last battery pack replacement program was announced on October 30, 2008.
