After recently releasing Windows 7 Release Candidate, Microsoft claims to be 'on track' with Windows 7 release and is expected to release it in December. Bill Veghte, senior vice president for Microsoft's Windows Business notes, Microsoft Windows 7 is expects it to hit selves well before the holiday season.
Two years after Microsoft Windows Vista was released, Windows 7 aims to cover up all the loopholes and glitches that users faced in Vista. Back in November 2008, Ina Fried of Beyond Binary noted that Microsoft had intended to complete Windows 7 for masses by holiday season (December) of 2009.
Pressure on Microsoft prevails for releasing Windows 7 earlier than anticipated date of July 2010. But Microsoft is taking care by not doing a rushed up job this time. Steven Sinofsky noted on the official Engineering Windows 7 blog, "Many are pushing us to release the product sooner rather than later, but our focus remains on a high quality release."
First release candidate of Windows 7 was made available on May 5 and will expire in July 2010. It's obvious that Microsoft will release second release candidate before the final release in December.
Nevertheless, not to miss out what Sinofsky noted in his blogpost, "We do not have a "deadline" we are aiming to meet and the quality (in all dimensions) of the product and a smooth finish are the most important criteria for Windows 7." So, it's likely that Microsoft may push the release date by a fortnight or two in case of any sever vulnerability is uncovered.
