The Samsung Star S5603, Star S5233 and the Samsung Beat DJ
Korean electronics giant Samsung has unleashed three new touch screen handsets in the Indian market with the announcement of the Samsung Star S5233, Star S5603 and the Samsung Beat DJ.

It sports a 3.2 megapixel camera with smile recognition, multi-format playback and Samsung's DNSe sound engine along with recognition using Shazam's "Find Music". There is 50MB of Internal memory, which is expandable up to 8GB via microSD cards. The phone also comes bundled with Google applications like Google Search, Gmail, Google maps. The S5233 will retail for Rs. 11,100.
Hi,i am planning to buy a touch screen mobile. I have zeroed it down to samsung star wifi, and nokia xpress 5800, which one is a better? and i would like to know to whether samsung star can be connected to a laptop and use laptop keboard to type messege and send it vuia phone.that option is available in nokia n70 . please help me out thank you
Pros:
Neat Looks, Good battery backup, typing using the keypad whether it is numeric keypad or QWERTY keypad is very comfortable. Browsing internet over GPRS is quite a good experience. Touch screen is quick to respond, I would not say as good as IPHONE but better than a lot of touch screen phones available in market at least I find it better than HTC phones. Another good feature of the phone is that when you have paired the device to a different mobile phone you can browse the paired phone using your own phone. Sound quality is pretty good. Speaker phone works very well. Using camera is also a pleasure with so many inbuilt options for editing it is really worth it. I really enjoyed working with Widgets, it is one of best experiences I have had with Samsung Star.
Cons.
While you are browsing the phone and now if you want to go back to the previous screen there is no way to close the window except for using the buttons located at the bottom of the phone, which at times is not acceptable. Stylus is not inbuilt in the phone you have to tie it to the phone. Switching to speakerphone while talking is a cumbersome task especially when you are used to NOKIA’s and MOTOROLA’s. Browsing photo contacts is not as smooth as shown in the advertisement. Smile shot never worked for me, I made so many types of faces but it would just not click. Organizer is limited to just 300 entries which is a shame. Going back to a previous word using the keypad is a pain, so lets say if you have typed “Samsung star is a touch screen phone” now if you have to edit this line and you want to get rid of STAR either you deleted everything after STAR or use finger to go to the word STAR which at times doesn’t works and you have to take out the stylus which again is a pain as it is not inbuilt. The keypad should have left arrow key or a right arrow key. There is no indication of missed call unless you unlock the phone, like in Motorola you get a beep every 5 minutes and in Nokia the whole keypad flashes.
Please do not expect anything from the manual, it is one of worst manual’s you can get with a phone, very disappointing work by Samsung.
The worst of all the three buttons at the bottom are not illuminated.
I have not connected the phone to the computer yet, so can’t comment on the interface.
but LG cookie sucks more
it has
no wi fi
no 3g
no usb
no pcsync
no zoom
no flash
cant decide wat to take wat not to
so guys tel which is best and cheapest touchscreen phone
I recently bought this mobile after a long fight in my mind between LG Cookie and Samsung Star. Features like Smile Shot and photo contacts made me to choose this than LG Cookie becoz rest of all the features are same.
Smile Shot didnt worked for me either till now. but taking photos with this feels like you are using a digi cam.
Harmeet i totally support your every point about the mobile. Going to the previous letters while typing any thing is a real pain.
When compared to LG Cookie it is not having that options where we can write on photos taken with the stylus itself, it is a bit thik than LG Cookie and is not having inbuilt stylus so another problem. Samsung though expandable upto 8GB they are not giving any external memory with the mobile where as you can get 1GB memory with LG Cookie.
I bought it for 9.9K recently additionally memory card and scratch gaurd.
So guys think once and twice before you buy, it is not bad but we also have option like LG Cookie which costs the same.
Another limitation of this samsung phone, though it has JAVA MIDP 2.0 but you cannot install any java application and it has been confirmed by Samsung Customer care. Again what a shame
How do u know? or u just said it coz these graphics plus "The phone also comes bundled with Google applications like Google Search, Gmail, Google maps." seem to suggest android. Also Samsung actually planned to release some android handsets during second quarter of 2009.
