Asus is trying hard to promote its LCD monitor line up in India. However, it's not going to be an easy task with veterans like Samsung, LG and Viewsonic, which are household names here, and the growing popularity of BenQ and Dell. The mid-range and entry-level market is already saturated but sales are currently at an all time high. On the other hand the high-end segment still looks a little bleak due to low demand for 24-inch monitors and above.
Today we have the recently launched Asus VK266H LCD monitor measuring 26 inches diagonally (25.5 inch to be precise). This is targeted at those who want a large screen for movies and games but don't want to spend too much. There aren't many 26-inchers available in India; in fact Viewsonic and AOC are the only two brands that come to my mind. This means Asus has room to play around with the pricing.
Let's check out the main features before we get to the build and design.
Primary Features
Like any 24-incher and above, the native resolution is 1920x1200 with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The pixel pitch is 0.287mm, same as a 24" monitor but since the screen size is a little more, text is easier to read and you don't have to strain your eyes. The panel used here is a TN in order to keep costs down but may not be a good choice when it comes to picture quality and viewing angles. Response time is a low 2ms (gray to gray) with a static contrast ratio of 1000:1 (20000:1 DCR) and maximum brightness of 300 candelas.
What sets this monitor apart is the assortment of connectors, integrated speakers and built-in webcam.
I was looking for ASUS LCD for a Long time. Almost 2 years back, i had read lot many good reviews on ASUS LCD monitors. Finally ASUS have launched cooolest models in India
Get your pricing right before you shoot off a review verdict about pricing at least. I have an AOC 26" 619FH wide screen bought in Jan 2009 which cost me Rs. 22,888 net.. so how can you say this is the cheapest 26" monitor available? And it comes bundled with a HDMI cable, a DVI cable as well as a DVI to VGA cable.. top that...
Good Review.
You have mentioned that it will be good to watch movies. How will it perform in gaming scenarios? 2ms response time is good. So do tell us about the experience while playing FEAR. Not sure if you should recommend Samsung 2233SW which has got a 5ms response time.
Also, do you know the price for Samsung T190 & T220.
Cheers.
Above contacdicts techtree's earlier price tag of >12K for Samsung 2233SW
Verdict
The Samsung 2233SW is available for Rs. 12,300 and comes with a one-year warranty. Add to that another 250-300 bucks you'll spend for a DVI-D cable. For this price and performance, the Samsung 2233SW easily beats the BenQ E2200HD, which also is a 22-inch Full HD monitor.
