Sony's Play Station Portable, or PSP, has sold over 50 million units worldwide, which clearly indicates that it is a very popular gaming platform.  However, this handheld console/multimedia device has been hit very hard by piracy and some screen issues. Still, the biggest issue in the past has been the limited support for the platform.

Sony has admitted that it has been very unfair to the PSP; but like a good parent, they are all set to make up for all the negligence and rectify mistake. This year is looking really good for the PSP with some big titles coming its way; plus there is also buzz about a new PSP.

Below we've listed some reasons - in the form of confirmed and rumored news - that make PSP a great purchase this year.

1)    Assassins Creed (Confirmed): The console version sold about 7 million copies even though the game was heavily criticized for repetitive gameplay. The game will be more than a mere port, considering the unique control scheme of the PSP as well as feedback from gamers. Sony is pushing the game with its own bundle, which is due in November.

2)    God of War sequel (Rumor): The brilliant guys behind Chains of Olympus, are secretly working on a second game, after their exceptional first offering. There is no news from Sony or Ready at Dawn Studios, but we are sure that Sony will follow up last year's success (with God of War) very soon. God of War 3 for the PS3 is due this financial year, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is some twisted feature that gives you benefits by registering your PSP GoW copy with the PS3, like they did with Resistance: Retribution.

3)    Dante's Inferno (Confirmed): EA is developing a multi-platform game called Dante's Inferno based on Dante Alighieri's medieval epic poem The Divine Comedy. In this, the player has to go through the gates of Hell to save his lady love - sucking evil souls and upgrading his abilities in the process. It's a brilliant concept as it needs you to breach the nine circles of Hell, which include lust, greed, and anger. The screenshots look promising too.

Interesting, but you forgot Dissidia: FInal Fantasy, which is gonna be huge. It'll probably sell 1.5 million in the US and Europe combined and its already sold 0.9 million in Japan.

it is always "a better year ahead" for the PSP. I sat like patience on a monument while my PSP does nothing but collect dust. "oh the future will be brighter". Fact is, Sony has been making some pretty poor business decisions these days.
