CEO says working on "different solutions" related to Android OS
After Samsung confirmed the existence of its first Android handset, the i7500, here comes more news about Acer, which is all set to announce more Android based devices later this year.
At a recent conference held at Taipei, Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci confirmed that the entire industry is looking at Android, which obviously includes Acer as well. He added that the company is working on "different solutions" keeping Android OS in mind. It is clear that the next obvious step for Acer would be its smartphones based on Android. It was in February that the company went live with its smartphone range, all Windows Mobile based phones. So, it is likely that we might see an Acer Android-based handset in the near future.
When queried if Acer had any plans for a netbook-based on Android, Lanci said it was too early to comment on such a development. That, instead of a simple "no" has set our pulses racing.
As more and more manufacturers are jumping on to the Android bandwagon, the OS is fast rising to become a force to be reckoned with in the smartphone OS segment. T-Mobile's G1, the first ever Android based handset, sold it's millionth unit just last week.
