Western Digital ShareSpace 2 TB [Review]

Provides large storage space on a network, but at a very high price

Easy to setup, neat and sturdy, cool and silent operation, good bundle, remote access

Slow speeds, expensive, does not support hot-swapping

We are back with yet another network storage device and this time it's from Western Digital. Known as ShareSpace, this device comes with 2TB of storage space. With a variety of RAID options and support for interfaces such as Gigabit as well as USB, this cool-looking drive seems very promising.

Bundle

  • Western Digital ShareSpace 2TB
  • Power adapter
  • Five cables with different types of connector plugs
  • Ethernet cable
  • Plastic hard drive mounting rail
  • Quick Install Guide
  • Software CD

The Ethernet cable has metallic plugs and seems to be very strong, so tugging at it will not uproot the wires from the plug at the end. The plastic hard drive mounting rails look a bit flimsy, but we will try using them to see if they really are. The adapter came with five cables capable of plugging into five different types of sockets to make sure that you can power up the ShareSpace, no matter in which country you are.

Feature-wise this product can't be compared with Synology DS-209+ or even QNAP TS-209 Pro II, at this high price point. WD HDDs are good but NAS seems still lagging behind the competitions.
