Free download for Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate flavors
The first release candidate of Windows 7 has been dated to release on May 5. Those worried about leaving from productivity applications of Windows XP won't be left scarred for Microsoft has decided to be little kind and will offer Windows XP Mode in the upcoming Windows 7 OS. The virtualization technology allows running one operating system run on top of other existing operating system.
Micrsoft's Scott Woodgate posted on the Windows Team Blog that the Windows 7 will have an exclusive Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC. Further, Woodgate stated that 'Windows XP Mode is the intended for the small businesses to help them comfortably move to Windows 7'. So basically, users will be able run old productivity applications under virtualized Windows XP environment support in Windows 7.
The basic object of Windows XP Mode is to allow installing and using old productivity applications on Windows 7 based PC. It should be noted that Windows XP Mode requires an Intel or AMD processor that supports virtualization and is enabled for the client-side virtualization - means the virtualization takes place on the user machine and not on any server.
Microsoft promises to offer Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC as a free download for those who buy Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise versions of the operating system. This feature wasn't included in previously released Windows 7 Beta version and it will be with the Windows 7 release candidate.
