The Asus website shows a new nettop - EeeBox PC B208- in the Eee family, which is supposedly a successor to their EeeBox PC B206. We had tested the EeeBox PC B202 back in November when nettops started showing up in the market.  The EeeBox PC B208 scores over previous nettops with significant hardware upgrades.

The EeeBox PC B208 equips dual-core Intel Atom 330 processor that is clocked at 1.6GHz with 1MB L2 Cache and 533MHz front side bus. This Intel Atom 330 CPU supports DDR2 667MHz Memory modules and the thermal design power rating has been doubled to 8W from 4W due to dual-cores.

The B208 runs on Windows Vista Home Basic edition and packs 2GB DDR2 RAM; 1GB more than B206, with storage of 160GB/250GB/320GB SATA HDD and 10GB Eee Storage. The best part about this EeeBox is that it features the discrete ATI Radeon HD 4530 graphics card. Now watching HD Movies and gaming on the EeeBox PC B208 will be an eye-soothing experience, at least from the nettop point of view.

And for better wireless connectivity, this nettop offers WLAN 802.11 b/g/n support with Draft 'n' promising better connectivity. For connecting the EeeBox PC B208 to HDTV, Asus provides HDMI out port. The rest of the features include remote control, MMC card reader, Gigabit LAN and consumes about 20 Watts.

This EeeBox PC B208 is expected to compete with Acer's Aspire Revo nettop, which has an Nvidia ION platform. However, it would be interesting to see if EeeBox PC B208 beats Aspire Revo in terms of performance.

Asus hasn't revealed the pricing and availability of EeeBox PC B208.

The Eee Box is the smallest desktop PC we've seen, around the size of a large paperback book. It comes with a stand so it can be positioned vertically A flap on the front conceals a memory card reader, headphone and microphone sockets, and two USB2 ports. Another two USB2 ports are on the rear, alongside a Gigabit Ethernet port, while Draft-N WiFi is built in. On the back is an audio line-out, which doubles as an S/PDIF. The DVI port and Intel integrated graphics chip had no problem filling the full 1,920x1,200 resolution of a 24in widescreen monitor, One of our favourite features of the Eee Box is its included VESA mount, letting you attach it to the back of any compatible monitor, creating an all-in-one PC. It's great if you have little space on your desk, or you want to tuck the Eee Box out of the way behind your TV. Windows XP Home Edition is installed, and generally felt quick and responsive. The 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor and 1GB of RAM are fast enough for web browsing and office work. The Eee Box played standard-definition DivX videos flawlessly. You can boot into a Linux distribution (Express Gate) in just seven seconds. This is useful, and includes an internet browser, photo viewer, chat software and Skype. The 80GB hard disk is big enough for most needs, but you can easily upgrade it with a larger-capacity model via a hatch in the base. The Eee Box's small dimensions mean there's no space for an optical drive, so you'll need a USB drive for watching DVDs, installing software from discs or even using the restore disk that comes bundled with it. If you already have a monitor to spare, the Eee Box is an inexpensive new desktop PC. It's perfect for basic day-to-day computing tasks, or for use as a second PC for the kids. It also makes a flexible alternative to buying a streaming media player.

Wow. Definitely attractive. Although it can't compete with the likes of the Core2Duo and the AMDX2 still I would like to use this because of it's low power consumption. i guess you could make way better gaming laptops with a dual-core atom and solid state disks since the battery power would last much longer. So you could game on even if you are going on a trip.
