Nokia's Messaging Service is still free in India. You will only be charged for data transfer.
When Nokia launched the E75 in India, it also announced in its sidelines, the launch of its messaging service in the country. That however was the official launch which of course meant that the service was available for us to use much before its launch . In far away Europe, Orange has tied up with Nokia to offer the same services, this time co-branded. The service is called Nokia Messaging By Orange and the intention is to provide access to push e-mail to all. The agreement for this was signed back in February and both the companies have agreed to expand the services to eight more countries.
Nokia's messaging service offers users single interface to access up to 10 email accounts on the same device. You can do everything you can do with a normal POP3 email account with the Messaging Service (branded or not!). You can read, send, forward and reply to emails, access subfolders, download and read attachments or attach files to emails.
Now, that is interesting. At the moment we are unsure about the charges that end users will need to shell out for using these branded services. Note that users usually pay a premium for branded services like this which usually have little to offer to users over what the plain-jane version (like the one available in India now) has.
At the moment, Nokia does not have any tie-up with an Indian operators so you can enjoy the services without paying premium charges. But note that this one is a data intensive application and you might end-up with a nice bill at the end of the month if you are on a data capped connection.
For those who are lucky (like me) who are on an unlimited connection, enjoy while it lasts! Head here to download and install the application. The site has a list of supported devices as well.
Guys, I would suggest you one software that add worth in your cell.
Messmo is a free application and compatible for all mobiles that support GPRS and mobile internet. No need to pay to download.
Once installed, you can send Free SMS to any mobile, Text messages, attachments... and much more!
Nice one. I like to try free stuff... And if this application will allow me to send free sms/mms then that would be better.
Let me know from where I have to download it?
Well well well Techtree. What kind of news is this ? Nokia messaging needs a full review from you to make people aware. I'm using it from the time it got launched and have found it pretty useful because there's not many other applications that get yahoo & hotmail delivered to your phone so easily. As far as push mail goes, I used to use gmail imap which I've given up once I got on to nokia messaging. Add OVI sync and you have almost an Mail for Exchange (if not Blackberry) kind of setup on any supported phone (and believe me one of my phone is said to be not supported but I've managed to install nokia messaging without much hassle). And by the way I don't have unlimited GPRS plan, using MTNL Dolphin 15MB per month plan which I've found enough for checking mails using nokia messaging every 4 hours between 8am to 8pm. So it's not data intensive unless you start downloading mails with attachments.
Well, while I wrote this.. I was aware this one suffered from an identity crisis. I will place this somewhere between a news and a preview or neither. I intended to report the alliance between Orange and Nokia in Europe; but then it had no "Indian connection" and this one ended up like this. And Umesh, I am aware this one might not be as data consuming as mobile youtube for example. But if you keep the sync option on, it does add up to a considerable amount by he end of the month. That is, if you happen to be one of those expensive data capped plans which I wouldnt touch with a one mle rod. That was just a precautionary note. We will be doing a full review very soon. Maybe i jumped the gun. Let me conjure up a full review. Btw, did you face any issues sending e-mails from the service?
@Raj, I am using Mobile Office,Airtel on a Mahrashtra and Goa card if that helps! :) **goes to write a review**
Rahul - Since you asked, I checked the sending emails option. What it does is it sends mail only when sync happens or when you force sync. With push ON, the mail goes out immediately. Also, I've noticed a lag between when mails are actually delivered to mailbox and show on phone. Surprisingly Gmail has the longest lag of upto 5 min while yahoo/hotmails usually show up within 1-2 min at most.
Ah.. I guess I might have missed something. I initially used to get a delivery failed error message with Gmail (only) when I sent mails. Wasnt able to find out the reason..and then my phone went for a firnware update and I now need to reinstall the entire thing again. BTW. what unsupported phone are you using?
