Microsoft has announced that Service Pack 2 will be released on April 28 for Office 2007. This Office 2007 SP2 will be available to users via Windows update tool to normal users. The SP2 was announced way back in October 2008.

Microsoft Update Product team posted the Office 2007 Service Pack 2 announcement official MU Product Team blog with details on what to expect with Office 2007 SP2.

This Office 2007 SP2 brings major update to open, editing and save documents in Open Document Format which includes OpenFormatText (*.odt), Open Document Spreadsheet (*.ods) and Open Document Presentations (*.odp). Also, the Office documents will get the functionality to save them in PDF format natively.

Open Document Format will support many government organizations and agencies using Linux-based computer systems.

Outlook 2007 gets performance improvement and calendar reliability along with other significant bug fixes in core Office applications. Overall performance improvements will be levied along with other additions like tools, objects and reliability in the Office applications.

This Service Pack 2 will also have client service pack uninstall tool for removing the client updates. However, this Service Pack Uninstall Tool would be available as separate download.

Office 2007 SP2 will support Internet Explorer 8 on Windows Vista SP 2, Windows 7, Windows Server R2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2. Microsoft claims that the SP2 has been tested by thousands of beta testers from 60 different countries.
