Apple has released the third beta of the iPhone OS 3.0 for developers. The third beta of the iPhone OS 3.0 has a few changes in the developer APIs, including a fairly important one to change push notification types; the interface has become more zippy.

Last month, Apple showed off the next major software update of the iPhone OS 3.0, which carries loads of new features, but there were some disappointments as well. Two weeks after that, Apple is on track and has released the iPhone OS 3.0 SDK beta 3 (build 7A280f) for developers.

This third beta of the iPhone OS 3.0 includes changes like speed improvement, Spotlight saving searches, selective search areas in Spotlight, option to change double-tap home button feature for iPod Touch, and some MMS changes for the German T-Mobile network. One of the many significant changes is the restrictions on In-App Purchases and Location.

However, the major highlight of the beta 3 update is the ability to change notification types, as reported by Ars Technica. The beta 3 packs in three different types of notification methods - badge, text alert, and sound. So, now, developers can register apps with these notification types individually as per user requirements.

Considering the current scenario, Apple looks to be on track with the launch of the final iPhone OS 3.0 update this summer. Apple is also rumored to be launching new iPhones as soon as the iPhone product update cycle completion occurs during summer time.
