Popular social networking site Facebook has partnered with Adobe to bring Flash technology to Facebook's developer platform. With this partnership, Facebook app developers will have more easy and streamlined Flash integration in the platform. Interestingly, this announcement comes after MySpace's Silverlight integration.
Adobe's new ActionScript 3.0 client library was introduced for developers using Flash on Facebook platform and Facebook Connect. Earlier developers used unofficial Flash libraries for integrating flash in the Facebook apps, but now, with official support, open source libraries of new ActionScript 3.0 will be available to all Facebook developers.
However, this official integration is both good and bad. The good thing is that we can expect to see more classic flash games and applications on Facebook with Facebook Connect integration. While the bad part is that too much of Flash might make the Facebook interface heavy and buggy.
Users are already unhappy with the redesign of the Facebook home page.
Also, the Koobface worm has infected computer of several Facebook users. And new variants of the earlier reported Koobface worm have been cropping up at other social networking sites as well.
However, it's not certain if this Flash integration with Facebook and Facebook Connect in anyway would help iPhone developers take leverage. The absence of Flash support on the iPhone has left iPhone and Facebook app developers unhappy.
Flash support for iPhone is one of the misses mentioned in the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0 expected in June.
