Copyright issues and sharing of profits lead to move
Are you surprised that some of the videos on YouTube have a stripped off audio or have been completely removed from the video-sharing site?
This is because YouTube's not-so-new rival Warner Music Group is back with a bang! The clash between the two companies is mainly regarding how much should YouTube pay Warner Music for the latter's copyrighted work on the website. So now, Warner Music is hunting for the videos that YouTube does not hold the copyright for.
A report by The New York Times states Warner Music as saying that YouTube's system for identifying copyrighted material does not distinguish between professionally made music videos and amateur material that may include copyrighted works.
In December last year, Warner Music and YouTube had an argument over a deal regarding how much Warner Music should be paid. The deal did not work out, and so, YouTube and its users no longer can access Warner's music collection. A loss for all the music lovers out there.
