After months of tormenting HP to send their Mini Note, they finally relented and sent one to the tech lab. Having heard a lot about this device I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. So I open the box, all excited of finally having the Mini Note and what do I see? A red box with flowers all over!
Well, the wise guys at HP sent us the Vivienne Tam edition of the Mini Note, which gets its theme from the fashion designer who contrived it.
Since this is our first HP Mini let me just run over the series of Netbooks that have come before this. HP first introduced the Mini Note 2133 almost a year back which pitted against the Dell Inspiron Mini and the MSI Wind. It featured a smaller 8.9" screen and was powered by a VIA C7-M processor running at 1.6GHz. You had different options for storage like a SSD or HDD but the specifications were more or less the same.
Fast forward to January 2009 when HP announced an updated model, the 2140, which was powered by the trendy Intel Atom processor and featured a 10.1" screen. While these notebooks were aimed at the business /education sector, HP soon introduced the latest iteration called the Mini Note 1000. This one featured a smaller 1.8" hard drive and a much slimmer design, since the VGA ports were taken out and added as an add-on adapter sold separately. Today we review the designer edition of the HP 1000, which will no doubt be more pricey and is targeted at fashion conscious women (or men).
