Acer is rumored to release its 11.6-inch Aspire One model in the slew race of 10-inch netbooks. People might get confused to figure out difference between netbooks and notebooks since netbooks will now exist 11-inch screen size as well.

Acer's 11.6-inch Aspire One is expected to equip Intel's Poulsbo platform that comprises of Intel Atom Z530 processor. Intel's Poulsbo platform has thermal design power of 4.5W, while the previous platforms had thermal envelope of 11.8W. The huge drop in power consumption is clearly visible.

The chipset Intel SCH USW15S integrates Intel GMA 500 graphics core that is basically the PowerVR SGX 535 chip of Imagination Technologies. Intel GMA 500 graphics features H.264 encoding and support for other codecs.

The 11.6-inch LCD screen offers 1366x768 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Now, this might become a point of confusion for many. With no defined standards for netbook, anything that has low power processor now is being sold as a 'netbook' these days. Few manufacturers said that netbooks basically have less than 10-inch screen.

The cat and mouse of marketing gigs will leave people with an option to buy a netbook the way they've perceived -- something which is usually a small form factor. Also, the 11.6-inch screen would look bigger than the usual league of netbooks. Let's wait and see if there'll be more 11-inch netbooks coming out to create yet another sub-segment.
