Build and Design

The Sony Ericsson W705 is a sleek and well-designed handset. With a slider form factor, it doesn't look extravagant, but sure looks smart. It has incorporated the smart looks of its G-Series counterpart, which is a plus point. The phone comes with two color options - Silver and Red. We received the red-colored handset, and we have to tell you that both genders will find it pretty attractive, especially women. The silver-colored handset is smarter looking and will surely be the top seller between the two.

The face of the phone has a large 2.4-inch screen. The screen is bordered with black brushed metal finish.

Above the screen, we see the earpiece, the secondary camera for video calls, and a light sensor along with the Walkman logo.

Under the screen, we have the standard controls, all set within three circles, which are attached side-by-side. The center circle is basically the 5-way D-Pad of the handset and also substitutes for playback controls when in Walkman mode. The other controls consist of two soft keys and calling keys on the end circles. The call cancel button also doubles up as the Power ON/OFF switch of the handset. The left circle has a third control, the Activity Menu, while the right circle has a Clear button. The controls are ergonomically well set and are accessible, even though they are designed to be small to accommodate the large 2.4-inch screen above. I noticed some hindrance when it comes to using the 5-way D-Pad. This is rather small and can be a problem for people with large fingers, because hitting one of the direction controls could end up as a different directional input.

The side of the handset has chrome lining, which adds to the phone's smart looks. It runs all around the phone and encircles all ports and controls placed around the phone.
