Namco Bandai announced their plans to offer their classic arcade games for download through Facebook. The social networking site, Facebook, is already popular for casual games like Scrabble. Majority of the games available on Facebook are based on Flash and run in-browser.
Namco would be one of the first major game publishers to opt for digital game distribution through Facebook. The all-time classic Pac-Man and Dig Dug would be first available for download through Facebook later today.
Namco will partner with J2Play for building off-browser connectivity to Facebook within the games. After implementing that, the players' achievements would be directly flashed on their Facebook profile. Also, users will be able to chat with other Facebook members and play games at the same time.
This sounds similar to the Facebook Connect feature implemented on the iPhone. Namco is planning to release more arcade games along with a few original ones in the near future.
