Finally!
While many have been ranting and raving over the missing features, Apple has finally brought back a bunch of goodies with its iPhone OS 3.0 update. The iPhone OS 3.0 update will be publicly available in summer for free to iPhone users and for $10 (Rs. 500 approx.) to iPod Touch owners.
When we say summer, we believe it will arrive at the Worldwide Developer Conference 2009 in June. Hopefully, Steve Jobs would be there to announce the availability.
At the iPhone OS 3.0 preview, Scott Forstall, vice president of iPhone Software Engineering, gave out details about the features in SDK for developers and also for consumers. Over 1,000 new API (Application Programming Interface) have been packed for developers in the new iPhone OS 3.0 Software Development Kit (SDK).
After bombarding the audience with some App Store statistics, Forstall spoke about a bunch of new features for developers line in-App purchase options, peer to peer connectivity option, push notifications, embeddable Maps, External Accessory Framework and iPod Library access via Media Player framework.
While most of the demo managed to bore us a bit, the most impressive were Smule's new app Leaf Trombone - World Stage, Electronic Arts' The Sims 3 game for iPhone and NGMOCO's new multiplayer first person shooter game LiveFire.
