Gosh! The week is already over and yet again, its time for the Techtree Weekly Round Up. So here we go again for a quick ride on the tech bits that kept us on the toes over the course of the week. Compared to earlier weeks, this one might have been a tad staid and uneventful, but we did have a new product announcement in the form of the Apple iPod Shuffle.. Anyway, here we go!
Casio Launches Exilim EX-FH20 Digital Camera Let's start with imaging this time round! The week started with news of Casio releasing its newest camera in its Exilim range, the Exilim EX-FH20. Windows 7 to Support Browser Switch After all the regulatory controversies comes the moment of truth. Microsoft has revealed that it intends to add a feature to it's upcoming OS, Windows 7 that will enable users to completely turn off Internet Explorer, Windows Mobile and other proprietary Microsoft software was said to be thrusting upon users. Yet Another App Store on the Anvil: Acer's Acer, the latest PC and Hardware manufacturer to join the smartphone race has announced that it will be having an app store of its own. This move from Acer is surprising indeed considering the fact that Microsoft will be having it's own App Store by the time this come to fruition.
India Moves Closer to Mobile Number Portability The much-awaited Mobile Number Portability (MNP) looks finally set to arrive. After discussions dragged on for months, there were reports that we could see the introduction of MNP by August. Today, US-headquartered Syniverse Technologies said that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has sent them a Letter of Intent (LoT) for implementation of MNP services in the country. Apple Netbooks Rumors Arise Again Reports about Apple prepping a touchscreen netbook have come up again. It's been reported that Taiwan-based company Wintek is working with Apple for developing certain products but doesn't have information on the applications of those products. But the big Apple isn't ready to throw any light on the much hyped netbook rumors. CEO Steve Jobs said that Apple doesn't know how to make $500 (Rs. 25,000 approx.) Mac that isn't a piece of junk. Interesting!

Apple Launches New Smaller, Talking iPod Shuffle Apple introduced the third iteration of the iPod shuffle earlier this week and it seems the company is on a shrinking spree. The latest variant of the shuffle is almost half the size of its earlier siblings and packs in 4GB of storage.
Android to Outsell iPhones by 2012 Thats correct! A recent Telecoms & Media report has revealed that closed platforms like the Apple Mac OS will lag behiind the Open OS' like Android by the year 2012. The report also forecasts that the Android platform, owing to its open pedigree will outsell iPhones worldwide by the year 2012.
Nokia Announces 3 New XpressMusic Phones Nokia announced as many as three new music-oriented XpressMusic device last week. The new ones to see the light of the day include the Nokia 5730, 5330 and the low-end 5030. The devices will be launched by Q3 this year and is set to come to India as well.
Windows 7 RC 1 Leaked on Torrent Sites Last month, Microsoft had listed the 36 much requested changes in its first release candidate of Windows 7. This RC 1 was expected to arrive on April 10. However, to everyone's surprise, a new Build 7057 of Windows 7 was reportedly being seeded on Torrent sites. Firefox 3.1 Beta 3 Now Available for Download The latest Beta version of the Worlds second-most popular browser is now available. Intended for developers and bug fixer's, this version is a platform the check the stability and the effectiveness of the features incorporated in the previous beta version. There has been some feature additions as well but not many that would be noticeable.

Apple to Preview iPhone OS 3.0 on March 17 Apple has sent out invitations for a special media event on March 17 and it will reportedly be previewing the iPhone OS 3.0 for the first time! that Apple will introduce much-requested features (by consumers) in the iPhone 3.0 OS. However, it looks like a development build preview version, which might be publicly shown off to developers at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2009.
